Finally, after 29 years, the Kansas City Royals are headed to the World Series. In 1985, I lived in Jefferson City, Missouri, and was a 24 year-old Cardinal fan. Years later in 2011, I moved to Kansas City, in part, to be a bit closer to the Royals as a partial season ticket holder and a Chiefs season ticket holder. That, and to build my business.
This is another opportunity to show the world what a great city Kansas City is to visit. It is also an opportunity to educate ill-educated former geography students that, yes, Kansas City is in Missouri.
We had a similar opportunity a couple of years ago with the All-Star game and we rose to the occasion. However, this is a much bigger deal.
I am proud to say I am a Kansas Citian. We are a friendly people. We want you to share our barbecue, see all of our fountains, and love our Royals with us. And we want you to come back and visit.
The only unfortunate thing is Kansas City Royals fans can be a bandwagon bunch. With tickets to 30 games this year, I can tell you there were many times I sat in the stands with only about 16,000 other fans with room for 24,000 more onlookers. We forgive you. But don’t be a prodigal fan. Now that your back in the fold, come out and support our Royals next summer when that inevitable slump that all teams go through on occasion happens.
Nonetheless, this is a positive blog. We have a chance to show off. And, at the same time, show our midwestern hospitality. I am sure, along with our boys in blue, we will rise to the occasion. #BeRoyal
